The Live-Action ‘Blue Lock’ Movie Gets New Trailer

The live-action film adaptation of Blue Lock will hit theaters in Japan next month. Bringing the tale of young aspiring athletes to the big screen, Toho has shared a commercial for the movie.

Three hundred high school forwards from across the country have been summoned to ‘Blue Lock,’ a revolutionary facility dedicated to cultivating the striker who will lead Japan to World Cup victory.

Only one player can emerge victorious; the losers will forfeit the right to ever play for the Japanese national team again. Protagonist Yoichi Isagi (Fumiya Takahashi) and the others stake their entire soccer careers on this fierce survival match.

Blue Lock is a soccer manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. The series follows high schooler Yoichi Isagi as he joins Blue Lock, a training regimen meant to create the world’s greatest striker, with those who fail the program barred from representing Japan in future World Cups. Yoichi will learn if he has what it takes to become the best striker in the world.

The live-action Blue Lock is directed by Yusuke Taki, with a screenplay by Tetsuo Kamata, and production by Credeus and CK Works. It stars Takahashi Fumiya, Sakurai Kaito, Takahashi Kyohei, Nomura Kota, Aoki Yuzu, Nishigaki Sho, Tachibana Yuki, Ishikawa Raizou, Iwanaga Joey, Asano Shunya, Sakurai Yuki, Kura Yuki, K, Tsuna Keito, Higuchi Kouhei, Kubota Masataka, Hata Mei, Tomimoto Sousyo, Kida Keisuke, Miura Ryota, and Higashi Keisuke.

Blue Lock will premiere in Japan on August 7, 2026. No word yet on a plan for a North American release.
