Adult Swim is Celebrating Its 25th Anniversary with A ‘Robot Chicken’ Special

In 2001, Adult Swim launched, creating a legendary and influential programming block. Celebrate 25 years of Adult Swim with a new Robot Chicken anniversary special premiering this August.

Robot Chicken is a stop-motion adult animated sketch comedy series created by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich. Premiering on February 20, 2005, it focuses on pop culture characters and shows, using toys and claymation and an all-star roster of guest stars for dark comedic results. After season 11, Robot Chicken switched from full seasons to doing themed specials. Adult Swim is Cartoon Network’s adult-oriented programming block featuring animated series, anime, mockumentaries, late-night talk shows, and more. The block became a staple for fans of the absurd, surreal, and shocking. Original programming includes Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken, Moral Orel, Sealab 2021, Rick and Morty, Squidbillies, Smiling Friends, The Venture Bros., Risky Dingo, and more. Its anime lineup was how many in North America were introduced to mature anime titles, including iconic series like Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha, Big O, Trigun, Shin-Chan, and more, as well as uncensored versions of series previously on Toonami, like the uncensored versions of Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo, One Piece, and Naruto.

Adult Swim also helped revive several canceled series, including Family Guy and Futurama, which gained a cult following with reruns airing regularly on the block.

Notes from the Tides: If there is anything we can say is an absolute truth that Adult Swim was impactful in making all of us at NT nerds and anime fans. Its comedies made us laugh, its action series pulled us in, and the surreal stuff had us thinking.
