Gundam Rogue Orbit Demo Review

One of my favorite attractions at NYCC last weekend was Bandai’s Gundam Rogue Orbit Demo. I remember watching the trailer for it during Summer Games Fest 2026, lamenting how cool it would be if a Gundam game played like this, only to be pleasantly surprised when they revealed the name at the end.

Armored Core 6 set a standard for how mecha action games should look and feel to me, so naturally I’ve had my fingers crossed for the past three years since it came that Bandai would produce a similar title with a Gundam skin over it. Lo and behold, my prayers may be answered.

The game feels excellent. On the surface it’s your typical character action game allowing you to perform combos by light and heavy attacks, but your machine feels heavy, requiring you to be more intentional with your movement, granted it’s still faster than standard Armored Core machines.

Upon start, you’re allowed to pick between three different machines, each with their own weapon load outs. I wanted to use the Assault Sword and Bits, but I decided to have fun with the Whip Sword and Beam Rifle instead. This is probably the closest we’ll get to playing a third person Castlevania title for a while.

The mission is as standard as it gets. Clear out a number of grunts alongside your teammates, and eventually face off against the final boss, where you of course unlock the machines temporary super mode Over-Rise, allowing you to completely decimate your oversized opponent.

So far so good. I’m already excited to see what the full game has in store. Hopefully some heavy artillery in order to really achieve that Armored Core feel.

Look forward to Gundam Rogue Orbit, coming March  5, 2027.

Pre-order here.
