After 25 seasons, the classic PBS Kids cartoon series Arthur has ended, and with its finale, it has shown us a peek at the future of its much-loved Characters.
The Finale Is Currently Up On The PBS Kids YouTube Channel:
While the finale does double duty, with its first story covering a classic tale of secrets and friendship, its second story has our favorite anthropomorphic animal kids finding a fortune-telling game that lets them see their futures.
While initially put off by their futures, it is revealed that they grow to love and enjoy who they become. Buster becomes a teacher, Muffy is running for Mayor, Francine is in charge of a company that designs & makes sneakers, George runs the sugar bowl, Binky is a weather reporter, D.W. a police officer, and Arthur a graphic novelist, with his newest book being a comic recounting the story of him getting his glasses (which in a nice touch is the first episode of the series).
Arthur premiered in 1996 and is an adaption of the children’s book series of the same name by author/illustrator Marc Brown (who has a cameo in the finale). It taught important, honest, and heartfelt lessons about community, friendship, education, and family. The series ran for over 240 episodes and had numerous tie-in media.
An iconic series, we want to thank Arthur for being there for every 90s and 00s kids’ childhoods! Thanks for teaching us to make sure to say “Hey!”
