It has been announced by manga publisher Hakusensha that Berserk manga creator Kentaro Miura passed away on May 6 at 2:48 p.m. due to acute aortic dissection. Miura’s family held a private service.

Miura was 54 and was born on July 11, 1966 in Chiba prefecture, Japan. While known for the dark fantasy series Beserk, he has worked on several series and is considered an iconic creator.

Berserk began as a single issue release in 1989 before being continued into a full series the next year later. Following Guts, a heavily armed monster-hunting mercenary, as he journeys through a dark and twisted fantasy world, Berserk became an anime fan-favorite for its captivating narrative and over-the-top action. The series would go on to get several anime adaptions, movies, and video games.

We can all agree that he is an iconic creator who will be greatly missed. We send his family and loved ones our greatest condolences.
