There is a sort of culture here in NYC. On almost every city block, there are small convenience stores that serve as your everything. They offer groceries, toiletries, snacks, and even hardware goods, these corner stores (called that even if they are not on the corner) or Bodegas (Spanish for wine shop) can be a community’s lifeblood. And their managers, their true managers, are the cats that call them home. There is a twitter account dedicated to chronicling the lives of these feline store owners, and it is the best thing ever.
Started in August 2014, Bodega Cats shows the cats of New York dominating the space we all know, truly belong to them.
While newcomers to NYC have attempted to complain about the cats in stores, they remain, because all true New Yorkers know to respect bodega cats.
Bodega cats are often a store’s mascot and meant as a way to keep away any vermin that may try to prey on a space. It is amazing to see them get the spotlight. Growing up in NYC, you learn that local stores are important to your community.
You can follow Bodega Cats on twitter to fill your timeline with all adorable goodness that is cats in stores. And check out their official site to grab yourself some Bodega Cats merch.
