As reported by Eurogamer, a husband and wife have been ordered by an Arizona Judge to pay Nintendo $12.23 million in damages done through them running two retro game rom sites.

Jacob and Cristian Mathias, the former runners of LoveROMs.com and LoveRETRO.co, have had to face litigation following a cease and desist order by Nintendo this past summer. It is unlikely that they will have to pay this full amount, with it being more likely that it is going to be settled for something much smaller behind the scenes. But high prices like this are meant as deterrents to others.
The year has been filled with Rom sites shutting down either by Nintendo’s threats of legal action or because of the fear of that legal action.
