‘RWBY’ Honors Monty Oum with Birthday Message

A new video has hit the official RWBY YouTube channel wishing late series creator Monty Oum a happy birthday, using some of the most heartfelt moments from across the show.

Monyreak “Monty” Oum was an animator and writer who got his start releasing video game-themed fight animations online with characters from Halo, Metroid, Dead or Alive, and Final Fantasy. He would begin working for Rooster Teeth as the lead animator for Red vs. Blue before creating the original series RWBY in 2013. In 2015, Oum would suffer a severe iatrogenic allergic reaction that led to a coma and his eventual passing.

RWBY was created by Oum and produced by Rooster Teeth Animation. Set in the fantastical world of Remnant, where evil creatures called “Grimm” ravage the land, it is up to Hunters, wielders of amazing elemental weapons, to protect those who can not defend themselves. The series follows the titular team RWBY, four very different girls who strive to be the best, as they team up and train to become Huntresses.

Oum’s legacy lives on, with millions of fans who enjoy the world he created, with the main series continuing to this day (with a hiatus following the closure of Rooster Teeth and the series acquisition by Viz Media) and several spin-offs and tie-ins.
