‘The Rose of Versailles’ is a getting 50th anniversary movie!

A classic story returns!

The Rose of Versailles, a true anime classic, will be celebrating its 50th anniversary with a new anime movie, sure to spark nostalgia & excitement in fans of this iconic series!

The Rose of Versailles (also known as Lady Oscar and La Rose de Versailles) began in 1972 as a manga series written and illustrated by Riyoko Ikeda. The series is set in France before & during the French Revolution and is the story of two women: Queen Marie Antoinette and a soldier named Oscar François de Jarjayes. A historical romance drama dealing with themes of sexuality, politics, and revolution, The Rose of Versailles had a huge impact on the Shōjo genre. It would later get a 40 episode manga adaption in 1979, as well as several manga spin-offs, musicals, and a live-action film.
