Netflix has revealed that they will be releasing the big screen adaption of Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical on the platform later this year, with its teaser trailer showing an updated version of the iconic story.
Matilda is based on the 1988 Roald Dahl novel of the same name that follows a mistreated girl who is a child prodigy, as she develops powers and uses them to make her life better. It originally got an adaption in 1996 that, while considered a flop at its release, has become one of the most iconic children’s movies ever released. It would later be adapted into a stage musical in 2010.
Matilda (2022) tells the story again, adapting the musical for the big screen. It is directed by Matthew Warchus, with the screenplay by Dennis Kelly, and music & lyrics by Tim Minchin. It stars Alisha Weir, Emma Thompson, Lashana Lynch, Stephen Graham, Andrea Rise Borough, and Sindhu Vee.
Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical will premiere on Netflix later this year.
