As reported by Variety, a live-action series based on the classic anime franchise Speed Racer is currently in development at Apple TV with J.J. Abrams set as its executive producer.
Speed Racer (also known as Mach GoGoGo) is a racing franchise created by Tatsuo Yoshida. The series follows the Racer family as they travel the world, competing in high-speed and gadget-filled car races and facing off against villains. Speed Racer was translated and aired in numerous countries and is credited for being one of anime’s first successes in the United States. The series received a live-action film adaption in 2008.
The Apple TV series has Ron Fitzgerald and Hiram Martinez attached as showrunners & writers, they will be the executive producers alongside J.J. Abrams.
There is currently no release window for the series.
