As reported by Variety, a live-action adaption of The Powerpuff Girls is in development at The CW.

The new series will see the girls aged up to their 20s and disillusioned by a childhood of fighting crimes and monsters. They have to decide if they should team up once more to save the day.
The Powerpuff Girls was created by animator Craig McCracken (who also created Foster’s Home for Imaginary friends and Wander Over Yonder) and followed three elementary school-aged sisters with superpowers, they regularly took on a cast of wacky villains. Originally premiering as animated shorts in 1996, it later went on to get its own 6 season series, feature film, anime spin-off, and comic book series. The series was eventually rebooted in 2016 to mixed reviews.
The live-action series comes from Diablo Cody (the writer of Juno and Jennifer’s Body) and Heather Regnier (Sleepy Hollow and Veronica Mars 2019), with Warner Bros. Television is set to produce it.

It will be interesting to see what may come from this dark take on the beloved cartoon series. Stay tuned for more information.
