90’s kids have a huge update in terms of one of their most beloved children shows, Arthur, as Arthur’s teacher, Mr. Ratburn is revealed to be gay during a beautiful wedding episode!
The episode appropriately called “Mr. Ratburn and the Special Someone” has the kids in Arthur’s class shocked to learn that Mr. Ratburn is getting married, they end up believing it to be a woman at first, receiving the news that he is marrying the delightful Patrick.
Mr. Ratburn and Patrick are the series first LGBTQ+ characters and the ceremony and acceptance of the people of Elwood is beautiful!
Arthur, based on the books by children’s writer and illustrator Marc Brown, has been on the air for 22 seasons and has become a staple in children’s broadcasting.
It is nice to see a plot thread like this and congrats to Nigel and Patrick on their nuptials, may they have many happy days in the future!
