PlayerUnknown‘s Battlegrounds (PUBG) developer, PUBG Corporation has filed suit against Fortnite developer Epic Games, in Korea for alleged copyright infringement.
As reported by the Korea Times, PUBG (a game developed in Korea) has filed this suit in order to protect their intellectual property. While the details of the suit have not been made fully clear, it follows previous statements from the developer that they had reason to believe that certain elements (such as items and user interfaces) from PUBG, were implemented into Fortnite.
This is ahead of Fortnite‘s venture into Korean gaming via its partnership with Neowiz Games to bring Fortnite into PC LAN gaming centers. Some claim this is what sparked the suit now, as PUBG has seen continued success in its home country.
Since Fortenite‘s release last summer and eventual development of the free-to-play Battle Royale mode, it has been taking the gaming world by storm, even recently partnering up with Avengers: infinity war. PUBG does well in the west, but Fortnite is seeing a continued rise in popularity.
