The upcoming live-action adaptation of Sakamoto Days has received a full official trailer and an April 29th release date, bringing the story of a retired hitman-turned-family man to the big screen.
“To protect his beloved family and his peaceful daily life, this extraordinary hero takes on approaching villains alongside his former subordinate and now partner, the mind-reading esper Shin!”
Sakamoto Days is an action comedy manga series written and illustrated by Yuto Suzuki and published by Shueisha and Viz Media. The story follows the titular Sakamoto, a once legendary hitman who has retired to become a loving family man. His new life is rocked, however, when figures from his old life come to seek revenge, leaving him no choice but to use his skills to protect his family’s peace while maintaining his cover as a boring dad. The series would get an anime adaptation directed by Masaki Watanabe, written by Taku Kishimoto, with music by Yuki Hayashi, and animation by TMS Entertainment.
The live-action movie looks like it will be an action-filled, fun time, taking the comedy and over-the-top fight scenes from the manga & anime and giving them the silver-screen treatment as Sakamoto defends against hitmen, drawn by a billion yen bounty that has been placed on his head. The live-action movie is being written and directed by Yūichi Fukuda, with Keiya Tabuchi directing the action scenes, and production by Avex Pictures and Credus. It stars Ren Meguro as Sakamoto, and includes Fumiya Takahashi, Aya Ueto, Miyu Yoshimoto, Mayu Yokota, Junki Tozuka, Akihisa Shiono, Keisuke Watanabe, Takumi Kitamura, Yusei Yagi, and Airu Niku. The film’s theme song will be BANG!! (Ment Recording) by the J-Pop group Snow Man.
The live-action Sakamoto Days movie will premiere on April 29, 2026, in Japan. No word yet on global releases.
