Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced Echoes of Aincrad, a new action RPG set in the world of Sword Art Online.
“Set foot in the world of Aincrad, where one mistake can mean death.
Create your own character, tackle the floating castle of Aincrad with other adventurers you encounter along the way, and find your way out this game.”
Sword Art Online is an action-adventure science fiction franchise that began as a series of novels by Reki Kawahara, followed by light novels written by Kawahara and illustrated by abec. Set in a world where VR tech can directly interact with a user’s five senses, it follows Kirito, a teenager who is one of 10,000 players unable to log out of the new VRMMORPG Sword Art Online on its launch day. Told by the game’s mysterious creator, Kayaba, that they have to beat the 100 floors of the dangerous castle Aincrad, the normally loner Kirito finds an ally in Asuna as they press ahead to free themselves from the game.
Echoes of Aincrad is being developed by Game Studio Inc. and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. Players will make their character and choose their gear before heading into the castle of Aincrad. As you progress through the game, you will level up, gain special abilities and skills, and, using a partner system, build synergy with NPCs you can partner with.
Echoes of Aincrad will be available on July 10, 2026. It will be on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam. You can pre-order it now.
