New ‘Ghost in the Shell’ Anime Series Schelduled for July 2026

A new Ghost in the Shell anime series has been announced, with a July 2026 release date and a new teaser trailer.

Ghost in the Shell is a cyberpunk sci-fi military franchise that began as a manga written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. Set in a not-too-distant future where technology has advanced, and human augmentation is common, human consciousness can be used to explore the internet, digital spaces, and robots. The series follows Major Motoko Kusanagi, a member of the counter-cyberterrorist organization Public Security Section 9. It has received several film and anime adaptations, the most notable for many being 2002’s Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, written and directed by Kenji Kamiyama, with music by Yoko Kanno, and animation by Production I.G.

THE GHOST IN THE SHELL (2026) will be directed by Mokochan, written by EnJoe Toh, with music direction by Shuhei Handa as character designer and executive animation director. The music director will be Taisei Iwasaki, who will also work on music alongside Ryo Konishi and Yuki Kanesaka, with music production by FlyingDog. Animation is by Sciene Saru, and Hajime Sorayama designs the title logo.

The return of the Major and the agents of Section 9 is an exciting prospect not just for series fans but for those who love the cyberpunk genre.
