Are you ready to fly again? Kiki’s Delivery Service, Studio Ghibli’s charming story of a young witch, her chatty cat, and amazing flying skills, is returning to theaters with an all-new 4K remaster next month.
“First released in 1989, KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE is one of Director Hayao Miyazaki’s most adored features from Studio Ghibli. The hand-drawn, animated feature, based on the novel by Eiko Kadono, is produced, written, and directed by Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki, and features a musical score from Miyazaki’s long-time collaborator, the renowned composer Joe Hisaishi. The new 4K remaster highlights the great thought and care put into every frame of the film, celebrating the authentic craftsmanship of Studio Ghibli’s detailed artwork.”

Kiki’s Delivery Service is a 1989 animated film written, produced, and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Eiko Kadono. The story follows Kiki, a young witch who, after moving to a small town, uses her flying broom to start a courier service while dealing with the difficulties of growing up and finding her place in the world. The film was the first Studio Ghibli film to be successful at its initial release and has gone on to become a classic.
The 4K remaster is the latest in a series of remasters brought to North American theaters by GKIDS and IMAX, following last year’s 4K remaster of Princess Mononoke. The process has been overseen by Studio Ghibli veteran Atsushi Okui, who served as the Director of Digital Imaging on The Boy and the Heron, the studio’s first film to screen in IMAX.

Kiki’s Delivery Service 4k Remaster will screen in both the original Japanese w/ English subtitles and English dub in select IMAX theaters starting March 13. Check for theaters near you and get your ticket on at GKIDS Films.
