Sentai Filmworks has announced that Vampire Hunter D (1985) will get a new Blu-ray release this summer, in time for the film’s 40th anniversary.
“Doris Lang is in trouble. Vampire Hunter D is an iconic genre-spanning sci-fi horror dark fantasy series written by Hideyuki Kikuchi and illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano. Set in the distant future of a post-nuclear earth, the series follows the titular vampire hunter D, a dhampir (half-vampire) who uses his skills and powers to slay monsters and evil men plaguing a scarred and dying world.
Vampire Hunter D (1985) is an anime film directed by Toyoo Ashida with a screenplay by Yasushi Hirano. The movie follows D, contracted by a young woman to slay the vampire lord who recently bit her. It features character designs by Yoshitaka Amano and music by Tetsuya Komuro. It was produced by Ashi Productions in association with Epic/Sony Records, CBS/Sony Group, and Movic.
The new Vampire Hunter D Blu-ray will feature English and Japanese with English subtitle options. It will be available on August 12, 2025. You can pre-order it now at SentaiFilmworks.com.
