Last year saw the closure of the much-loved internet entertainment company Rooster Teeth after a failure to find a buyer for it. A second chance is on the way for Rooster Teeth, as co-founder Burnie Burns has acquired the Rooster Teeth brand and its remaining intellectual property through his Box Canyon Productions company.
“Hiya.
Almost one year ago, we were all saddened to learn that Rooster Teeth would be shutting its doors. Today, I am very happy to say that I have completed an acquisition of the Rooster Teeth brand and many of its remaining properties.
The details of all this would be too much to communicate in a letter on a website, so please tune in to the February 5 episode of the Morning Somewhere podcast below if you want to find out more. Or you can check out the press release.
There is a lot of work to do around here before our re-launch. In the meantime, I hope that you will join me in welcoming back a brand that has been so important to so many people for so many years.
Stay tuned. More to come.”Return announcement via Rooster Teeth Official Site
Rooster Teeth was founded in 2003 by Burnie Burns, Matt Hullum, Geoff Ramsey, Jason Saldaña, Gus Sorola, and Joel Heyman. It rose to prominence among gaming/pop culture fans. They are well known for their Halo-based machinima series, Red vs. Blue, and the original animated action series RWBY. Their lineup includes live-action shorts & series, let’s Plays, video games, reality shows, podcasts, and more. They would even start their convention, Rooster Teeth Expo. Rooster Teeth was acquired by the YouTube network Fullscreen. It would later become part of Warner Bros. Discovery due to media acquisitions and mergers. Warner Bros. Discovery would shut down the company after failing to find a buyer in 2024.
