Fist of the North Star Prequel series “Legends of the Dark King” is getting a Blu-ray release next month

Sentai Filmworks has announced that it will release the Fist of the North Star prequel series Legends of the Dark King: A Fist of the North Star Story on Blu-ray this April.

“Much has been written about the legendary Fist of the North Star. Yet before Ken claimed that title, there was another master, one of four adopted brothers trained in the art of the Divine Fist. This is the story of Raoh, Ken’s elder brother, who claimed the title King Of The Fist and set forth to conquer the brutal world of the post-apocalypse. Unlike Ken, however, Raoh was no hero. Instead, his journey is one of savagery and conquest, for Raoh, the only purpose of other men is to serve his will and witness the Legends of the Dark King!”

First of the North Star is a post-apocalyptic martial arts manga series written by Buronson and illustrated by Tetsuo Jara. Set in a world recently destroyed by a nuclear war, it follows the wandering martial artist Kenshiro (or Ken), who uses the Hokuto Shinken martial arts style, allowing him to manipulate and kill others using unique contact points on the body. Despite wanting to live a simple life of peace, Kenshiro is dragged into conflict after his Fiancee is taken, and his pursuit has him coming across deadly gangs and rivals. The series would get several anime adaptations from Toei Animation and has become an anime staple.

Legends of the Dark King: A Fist of the North Star Story is a series spin-off that shows the rise of Ken’s older brother Raoh and his role as the Dark King. The manga, written by Yuko Osada, ran from March 2006 to August 2007. The anime adaptation, directed by Masashi Abe and written by Hiroshi Onogi, features music by Kazuhiro Ishikawa and Shinya Naito and animation by Satelight.

The Legends of the Dark King: A Fist of the North Star Story Complete Collection Blu-ray released and will include all 13 episodes with English & Japanese with English subtitle language options.
