The Naruto manga turned 25 this weekend, and Shonen Jump celebrated with a new video looking back at the journey of Naruto and his son, Boruto.

Naruto began in September 1999 as a manga series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto and published by Shueisha. It is the story of a young boy named Naruto, growing up in the Village Hidden in the Leaves. Cursed with a powerful tailed beast sealed inside of him, Naruto makes it his goal to become the village leader one day and the best of the best: The Hokage! The series would get an anime adaptation, video games, spin-offs, movies, live-stage adaptations, a sequel series, and more. Naruto Shippuden is the second half of Naruto, following him and his friends as they deal with the threat of a malevolent organization called the Akatsuki. The story of Naruto would continue in Boruto, which focuses on Naruto’s son, the titular Boruto.

An iconic series that still gets a lot of love from the anime-fan community to this day, Happy Anniversary, Naruto! Thanks for teaching us we can achieve greatness, no matter what our origins are.

You Can stream Naruto, Naruto: Shippuden, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, and several of their spinoffs, specials, and movies on Crunchyroll. You can pick up the manga and light novels at Viz.com.
