VIZ Media brought can’t miss experiences and news to this year’s Anime NYC! A jam-packed Ranma 1/2 world premiere screening & merch announcement alongside Hot Topic, a celebratory screening for BLEACH‘s 20th anniversary, and a booth offering collectibles and photo ops that had anime fans very happy!

“Ranma ½” Episode 1 Exclusive World Premiere from VIZ Media & Hot Topic!

Anime NYC attendees were in for a treat as Viz Media and Hot Topic hosted the world premiere of the first episode of the new Ranma 1/2 anime adaptation! The return of a fan-favorite franchise based on the manga written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi (the legendary mangaka behind Inuyasha, Urusei Yatsura, and more), the new series brings back the rom-com martial arts antics of Ranma and Akane.

Ranma 1/2 (2024) is produced by MAPPA and directed by Kōnosuke Uda, with writing by Kimiko Ueno, character designs by Hiromi Taniguchi, and music by Kaoru Wada. The series also features much of the original voice cast reprising their roles. Ranma 1/2 (2024) will premiere this fall, streaming on Netflix starting on October 6.

New Ranma 1/2 Apparel coming from VIZ & Hot Topic

A big announcement for the night was that VIZ secured the worldwide merchandise rights outside of Asia for Ranma 1/2 and that they are teaming up with Hot Topic for a new line of apparel set for release in Fall 2024. The collection will include t-shirts, hoodies, pins, drinkwear, throws, and posters!

Celebrate 20 Years of BLEACH!

VIZ also made sure to celebrate the milestone 20th anniversary of BLEACH with an exclusive watch party where a special new cut of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – Part 2, the continuation of the anime series, it’s an adaptation of the final story arc from the manga. You can stream BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War on Hulu.
