As we previously reported, 2024 is the 25th anniversary of the original Digimon Adventure anime series. This morning, an official livestream was held, where they released a nostalgia-filled video looking back at that first summer adventure of the DigiDestined, featuring the series’ original Japanese opening theme, “Butter-Fly” by Koji Wada. The video was presented as a “token of gratitude to all the ‘children’ of the world.”
A Touching Look Back At The Summer That Started It All.
Digimon Adventure premiered on March 7, 1999, and was based on the Digital Monster virtual pet created by WiZ and Bandai, who produced the anime in cooperation with Toei Animation and Fuji Television. The series tells the story of several children who, after coming across mysterious Digivices, are transported to the “Digital World” and quickly befriend a group of Digital Monsters or Digimon. They must now survive, using their Digivices to Digivolve their new partner Digimon to fight powerful enemies and reveal their destiny. The series was a smash hit, getting a theatrical movie and being the start of a long-running anime franchise set in the world of Digimon.
You can stream Digimon on Crunchyroll.
