The One Piece anime adaptation turns 25 this year, and Toei Animation has released a special commemorative video looking back at the Straw Hats’ journey.
One Piece is a manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda and published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. It’s the story of pirate captain Monkey D. Luffy who, after eating one of the cursed devil fruits, has a body made of rubber. Luffy sets out alongside a ragtag crew to find the legendary treasure One Piece and become the next King of the Pirates.
The One Piece anime premiered in October 1999, two years after the manga debuted. The series has become a phenomenon, topping the charts around the world. At the time of writing, there are over 1,100 episodes of the anime and 15 Toei Animation-produced anime films.
This is surely just the start of a year celebrating this major milestone for the popular series. Fans should stay tuned!
