A T.V. adaptation of Yakuza is premiering on Amazon Prime Video this October!

The official Ryu Ga Gotoku and Amazon Prime Video Japan X (formally known as Twitter) accounts have announced that a T.V. adaptation of Yakuza is premiering on Amazon Prime Video on October 24th.

The announcement revealed the T.V. adaptation will have an original story, with the teaser image featuring Kiryu showing off his iconic back tattoo.

Titled Like A Dragon: Yakuza, the T.V. series will star Ryoma Takeuchi as Kazama Kiryu. Takeuchi is a well-known actor in Japan, his portrayal of Kamen Rider in Kamen Rider Dive garnering a lot of praise. The series was announced last year, with most believing it would be a movie. Fans have long demanded a Yakuza T.V. series or movie, many noting that the game franchise’s story, settings, and over-the-top action, would work well in being portrayed in a serial format.

The Yakuza game series follows the lives of those entangled in the Japanese criminal underworld. While the series initially followed Kazama Kiryu as he struggled to survive while honoring his personal code and protecting his loved ones, the newer entries have added Ichiban Kasuga, a man who wants to be a hero despite his Yakuza origins. Another video game adaptation after the immensely well-received Fallout-based Amazon series, this has a lot of potential. It is exciting to think where this series could go.
