The Muppet Movie premiered in 1979 and is a musical road trip comedy based on the characters from The Muppet Show created by Jim Henson. The movie followed Kermit the Frog and his friends journeying cross country to pursue creative careers in Los Angeles. The film was directed by James Frawley, Written by Jerry Juhl, and starred Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Jerry Nelson, Richard Hunt, and Dave Goelz, and featured cameos from prominent stars from the era including Steve Martin, Carol Kane, Mel Brooks, Dom DeLuise, and Richard Pryor. The movie would be an immense success, its cultural impact so strong, that it eventually being preserved in the National Film Registry.
The 45th-anniversary screenings will include insight into the movie from film historian and critic Leonard Maltin.
