  • Unknown Worlds Entertainment has announced that while the game won’t be released in 2024, more information about the third Subnautica will be revealed this year.
  • It was also announced that the game will not feature season passes, battle passes, or subscriptions.

Video game developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment has earned much love for their underwater survival game series Subnautica, with its original game and its sequel Subnautica: below Zero, earning critic and fan acclaim. Fans have excitedly awaited the release of the third game in the series. While it was revealed that the game won’t be released this year, Unknown Worlds has given some information about when players will see the game and some of its design philosophies.

Unknown Worlds’ information about the upcoming Subnautica release:

  • “Early Access is not intended for release in 2024, but we plan to share a lot more information later this year!”
  • “In reference to “Games-as-a-Service,” we simply plan to continually update the game for many years to come, just like the previous two Subnautica games. Think our Early Access update model, expanded. No season passes. No battle passes. No subscription.
  • “The game is not multiplayer-focused. Co-op will be an entirely optional way to play the game. You’ll be able to enjoy the game as a single-player.”

News that sure is to make gamers happy after what seemed like a marathon of game releases, including season passes, battle passes, and the like.

Subnautica tasks players with surviving and exploring on an isolated ocean planet after crash landing, while dealing with its dangerous creatures and mysterious structures. The sequel took players to a “frozen sector” of the planet, bringing new ice elements, flora & fauna, and the story of a woman trying to learn what happened to her sister.

It is exciting to think of just where the story might head next. Stay tuned to Unknown Worlds for more updates.

Subnautica & Subnautica: Below Zero are available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and macOS.
