Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho premieres next week, and ahead of its release, it has gotten a new full trailer teasing the story of student-turned-spirit detective: Yusuke Urameshi.
Yu Yu Hakusho began as a manga series created by Yoshihiro Togashi (who also created Hunter x Hunter) and debuted in 1990. It follows teenage delinquent Yusuke Urameshi, who, after dying in a car accident while saving a child, is appointed by Underworld Prince Koenma as an Underworld Detective and tasked with solving cases involving spirits and demons. The series would go on to show Yusuke as he solves cases, earns his life back, and enters various martial arts fights and tournaments. It would go on to become an iconic anime series.
The Netflix adaptation is directed by Shō Tsukikawa and written by Tatsurō Mishima, and it looks like it will show Yusuke’s start as a detective up to his fight with Toguro. The series stars Takumi Kitamura, Jun Shison, Kanata Hongo, Shuhei Uesugi, Sei Shiraishi, Kenichi Takito, Goro Inagaki, and Go Ayano.
Yu Yu Hakusho premieres on Netflix on December 14, 2023.
