The ‘Ghost In the Shell (1995)’ anime film is returning to theaters this month

Ghost in the Shell (1995), a classic cyberpunk anime film, is returning to North American theaters this month, bringing a story of cyborgs and intrigue!

“Anime Expo Cinema Nights invites you to return to the visually stunning and poignant classic GHOST IN THE SHELL. 2029: A female cybernetic government agent, Major Motoko Kusanagi, and the Internal Bureau of Investigations are hot on the trail of “The Puppet Master,” a mysterious and threatening computer virus capable of infiltrating human hosts. Together with her fellow agents from Section 9, Kusanagi embarks on a high-tech race against time to capture the omnipresent entity. Director Mamoru Oshii’s award-winning cyber-tech thriller, based on the comic book by Shirow Masamune, is lauded as one of the leading Japanese animation films of all time.”

Ghost in the Shell (1995) is a Japanese neo-noir cyberpunk movie directed by Mamoru Oshii, with a screenplay by Kazunori Itō and animation by Production I.G. Based on the manga of the same name by Masamune Shirow, the film is set in 2029, where cybernetic body modifications have not only come far but are a semi-common part of day to day to life. It follows public Security agent Motoko Kusanagi as she and her team hunt a mysterious hacker only known as the Puppet Master. The series, not just the film, has been applauded for its imaginative depiction of the future, the internet, and examination of what it means to be a human and a machine.

The film returns to theaters thanks to Anime Expo Cinema Nights, a series of theatrical community experiences held in collaboration between Anime Expo and Iconic Events Releasing that brings anime films to theaters for the fans to enjoy.
