Back after 21 years!? Daria has a speaking cameo in the latest Beavis and Butt-Head episode!

The second season of Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head revival is ending strong with the release of its 12th and final episode today (June 29, 2023). The episode starts off by following the Smart version variants of everyone’s favorite Metalhead slackers as they are forced in front of the elders of their society. But one particular character during this scene is drawing attention with a not-too-subtle speaking cameo for a smart variant of the titular character from MTV’s Daria: Daria Morgendorffer!

This wouldn’t be the first time Daria has cameoed in this new era of Beavis & Butt-Head, as the character was seen during the Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, but this is the first time the iconic character has been heard, voiced by her original voice actress Tracy Grandstaff since the final Daria episode/film was aired in 2002!

Daria was created by Glenn Eichler and Susie Lewis Lynn and was a spinoff of Beavis and Butt-Head (created by Mike Judge). Focusing on the side character of Daria Morgendorffer, her family having moved to the small town of Lawndale. The series followed the intelligent and cynical Daria and her best friend Jane as they sarcastically dealt with the era of music videos, “teen spirit,” and drama. The show went on to become a cultural phenomenon, running for five seasons and getting two tv movies.

In recent years there has been talk of reviving the series in some way, with recent reports saying the revival will be a spin-off focusing on the character of Jodie Landon.

No matter how brief, it is great to hear that one-of-a-kind voice again (if you can’t tell, we are huge Daria / Tracy Grandstaff fans over here at NT).
