Nintendo’s social mobile app, Miitomo, has announced that it will be closing its services May 9th. The game was a fun and friendly way to communicate with friends, offering participants the chance to create Miis they could use to express themselves by dressing them up, customizing their spaces, and answering personal preference questions. They could then be used to play mini-games and visit the homes of friend’s Miis (think Tomodachi Life.)
Following a strong release in 2016 and much praise, the fan base quickly moved on. The upcoming closure isn’t shocking, but still sad for some.
To send the app off, Nintendo will be having a Miifoto contest, where participants can tweet their favorite Miitomo memory and are devoting all questions in the app’s answer central to Miitomo memories.
Miitomo was a fun take on being social online. It was ambitious and will be missed.
Thanks, Miitomo!
